Lotus Vision Care (LVC) is a full service Optometrists Practice in Winnipeg established by Dr. Bimal Kaur in February 2009 at Winnipeg's premiere Polo Park Shopping Centre. LVC has provides excellent eye care health services to patients from Winnipeg and surrounding areas and to out of province patients who require immediate attention and complete Eye Exams. The Doctors at LVC are actively involved in the professional provision of all aspects of eye care health services to existing and new patients with complete and comprehensive eye examinations, and contact lens services. LVC's mission and goal is to provide comprehensive eye examinations for an accurate spectacle or contact lens prescription, and a thorough examination of your ocular health including glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration and other eye health assessments. To further enhance this mission and goal, the investment and implementation of an EMR (Electronic Medical Records) on February 1, 2014 has provided improvements in better service to patients with efficiencies in processes and providing greater medical information security. The purchase of a Humphrey Field Analyzer in December 2014 for Visual Field Testing and Analysis to detect dysfunction in central and peripheral vision which may be caused by various medical conditions such as Glaucoma, stroke, brain tumours or other neurological deficits, was another investment in ensuring provision of excellent patient ocular health early detection of eye diseases . Services are provided to children as young as 6 months old, along with adults and seniors.

If there is a contact lens brand you need and we don’t carry in stock, we can order this for you with a short time for delivery. Please remember to bring a valid Manitoba Health Card, list of current medications, current eye glasses, and contact lens case if applicable. We direct bill to Manitoba Blue Cross, Great-West Life, Standard Life, Johnson Inc, Sun Life Financial, Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance, Cowan, Industrial Alliance, Manulife Financial, Maximum Benefit or Johnston Group, and Desjardins Insurance. Co-payment (balance not covered by third party insurance) is required at time of exam. Please call your Insurer prior to your eye exam appointment to find out your vision benefit coverage plan amount. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Interac (debit) and Cash as forms of payment for exam. Personal cheques and American Express Card is not an acceptable payment method. Patients who are 65 years and above or patients having any medical concerns (such as diabetes) may require additional specific testing and will be contacted by the receptionist from Lotus Vision Care. A reminder call will be done 2-3 days prior to your appointment. In case of cancellation, 24 hours notification is required. A No Show Fee will be applicable on any unattended appointment.
For online security requirements each online booking requires a unique email address for our Online Appointment Booking System. Parents and Guardians who are booking on behalf of members of their family aged 18 and below are requested to have a unique email for the child which will only be used by the Parent/Guardian. Only individuals above the age of 18 are allowed to book online appointments. Those wanting to book consecutive and/or Family eye exam appointments are recommended to call our office to facilitate the grouping of appointments. • Tariff Rates will be increasing between $1 to $5 effective May 1, 2016.
FDT (Frequency Doubling Technology) C-20 screening test which provides peripheral vision screening will be provided to patients above the age of 19 within this rate increase at no additional charge. The FDT is normally charged $21 to $34 and this will be at no cost to the patient above 19 years of age and is included within this rate increase effective May 1, 2016.
DFE (Dilated Fundus Exam) Option (OPTIONAL TESTING) $21 to $32
A DFE is a diagnostic procedure that uses drops to enlarge the pupil in order to obtain a better view of the eye and is an effective way to evaluate ocular health and disease, especially in individuals with Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, High Myopia, and other systemic and ocular diseases. The drops will blur your near vision for approximately 2-5 hours.
Visual Field Screening (HVF) Option (OPTIONAL TESTING) $20 to $40
This Screening is effective in the detection of problems like Glaucoma, Brain Tumours, Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Eye Disease, Optic Nerve Disease, and many others. We strongly recommend patients have this evaluation once per year especially if they have headaches, high blood pressure, or any visual problem. This test takes an additional 10 to 15 minutes of your time.
Dr. Bimal Kaur O.D., B.Sc.
Graduated from ICO (Illinois College of Optometry), Chicago in 2007 with Distinction on the Dean’s Honour List. She is an alumnus of University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science Degree, double majoring in Biochemistry & Biology. She also worked for a year at the Chemistry/Genetic Laboratory at the Health Sciences Centre after graduating from the University of Winnipeg. While undertaking her undergraduate degree, she was involved in heart research at the St. Boniface Research Centre. Dr. Kaur completed her internship at ICO, specializing in Pediatric eye exams and externships in Connecticut(Newington Veterans Affair Hospital) and Michigan(Kresge Eye Institute), with highlighted skills on specialized contact lens fitting, corneal diseases, cataract pre-operative and post-operative management, glaucoma, and retinal diseases including macular degeneration. She worked as an associate after graduating from ICO and decided to venture forth with her own practice, Lotus Vision Care, in February of 2009.
Dr. Kaur is a member of the government relations committee of the MAO (Manitoba Association of Optometrists) to ensure that government structures the law, for public health safety, and serves to provide the required eye health procedures and legislation in the best interest of patients.
Dr. Kaur has been a member of SVOSH (Student Volunteers for Optometric Service to Humanity) that facilitates the provision of vision care worldwide to needy people who cannot afford and obtain such care. In her voluntary capacity role, she attended weekly meetings to sort and package used eyeglasses donated by the Lions Club and other Organizations for distribution to the needy recipients. She funded her own mission trip to Honduras with a team of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, student Optometrists, Opticians and Optometric assistants in 2006 that provided eye services to over six thousand people. Dr. Kaur also provides volunteer services to One Sight and Siloam Mission in Winnipeg offering eye exams to individuals, families, and communities in the Winnipeg and surrounding areas.
Dr. Kaur is also a graduate of Bharatanatyam (Indian Classical Dance) and actively gives stage performances from time to time. Her interest in dancing has led her to currently train in Latin and ballroom dancing. She is also an avid traveler and is planning to visit India to provide volunteer vision care services to the needy in the near future.
Dr. Natasha Sookermany O.D., B.A., B.Sc.
Graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2006 achieving status on the Dean's Honour List. She is also an alumnus of the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree. During completion of her doctorate degree, Dr. Sookermany completed two externships; one here in Winnipeg with 4 local ophthalmologists and the second in Prince Rupert, British Columbia.
She has been a member of the Executive Council for the Manitoba Association of Optometrists (MAO) since 2010 currently serving as Vice President. Dr. Sookermany contributes further to the MAO as Chair of the Awards Committee and as a member of the Government Relations committee.
Dr. Sookermany spends much of her spare time at her cottage property boating and fishing with her family. She is a talented musician with years of practice playing many instruments including piano, steeldrums, and bagpipes and her love of travelling has taken her to many countries including Trinidad and Tobago, Thailand, and Japan.
Dr. Chandra Gorcharan O.D., B.Sc.
Completed a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction at the University of Winnipeg majoring in Biochemistry. She graduated from the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry and Vision Science in 2013. As a part of her optometric training, Dr. Gorcharan has gained practical experience in the diagnosis, treatment and management of ocular disease working alongside various optometrists. She completed an Ocular Disease and Therapeutics externship at the St. Albans Veterans Affairs Hospital in St. Albans, New York with an emphasis on cataracts and glaucoma management.
Dr. Gorcharan enjoys travelling and spending time with her family and friends. She is happy to return to Winnipeg and is looking forward to building new relationships with both new and current patients.
Korena Newton – Certified Optometrist Assistant
Korena Newton possesses over 15 years of experience within the Medical Industry. Korena is well-versed in patient care and handing in the clinical environment along with well desired and excellent skills that will provide a wonderful experience for new and existing patients of LVC. Korena also has a pleasant disposition that complements well for handling patient requirements, such as scheduling an appointment, answering questions in regards to eye care, clinical pre-testing procedures, and all other required processes that exist in an Optometrist Clinic. Korena has acquired accreditation and professional designation of CCOA (Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant) in October 2013. Korena started at LVC on August 26, 2011 and has proven to be an excellent addition to the LVC team.
Sarah Chua, Amanda Lauren Schwartz, Jonathan Olivarez, Rhia Garon – Receptionist/ Optometric Technician
Sarah Chua is also comparatively new to the Medical Industry. Sarah is currently studying at the University and provides casual services when she has some available time to LVC. Sarah is also quickly learning and gaining knowledge that is crucial in service provision to optometrist patients. Amanda has previous knowledge in the field of Optometry and is acquiring new skills and is quickly proving to be an excellent addition to the LVC Team.
